Chargebacks, refunds and why final settlement changes a public leaderboard
Nobody thinks about payment reversibility until it changes the leaderboard. On a board where money is the ranking, the finality of that money is a design decision.
What is a chargeback, and why does it matter here?
A chargeback is a forced reversal of a card payment, initiated by the cardholder's bank, often months after the fact. On a pay-to-rank board it means a position could be paid for, displayed, and then unwound.
What does final settlement mean?
Once a bitcoin payment is confirmed, no third party can reverse it. There is no issuer to appeal to and no dispute window. The record is settled.
| Card payment | Bitcoin payment | |
|---|---|---|
| Reversal window | Months | None once confirmed |
| Who decides | Issuing bank | Nobody — consensus rules |
| Effect on rankings | Can be retroactively wrong | Stable once recorded |
Isn't reversibility a consumer protection?
It is, and that is the genuine trade-off. Final settlement puts the responsibility on you to check what you are paying for before you pay — which is why every rule, total and payment on this board is public in advance.
What this means in practice
Read the rules, check the board, decide the amount, then pay. The receipt is permanent, and so is the position it buys.
